CULTURE NEWS

  • Dance Alive National Ballet invites community members to attend the groundbreaking of their new Khoury Family Center for the Arts set for August 28 at 9 a.m. at 3939 NW 34th Street—parking is available at Gethsemane Lutheran Church and the venue will later include a Dance and Music Academy, community outreach programs, an art gallery and a Black Box Theatre.  Alachua Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Santa Fe College opened the Ralph W. Cellon Jr. Institute for Skilled Trades and Advanced Manufacturing on August 19th at its Northwest Campus to expand programs in welding and HVAC as AI changes job demands. Local welder Rowdy Turner II, a Santa Fe alumnus, said the new facility reduced waitlists for trade training — meeting a growing need for skilled labor.  The Independent Florida Alligator
  • UF Board of Trustees named Dr. Donald Landry, a Columbia professor, as the interim president on August 25—he replaces Kent Fuchs and his appointment follows the rejection of Dr. Santa Ono. The decision awaits confirmation by the Board of Governors on September 10 as the university begins its search for a permanent president in early 2026.  The Gainesville Sun

  • Florida's volleyball team rallied with a 3-0 run to clinch its first win under head coach Ryan Theis against No. 3 Pittsburg on Sunday—standout performance from Jordyn Byrd helped secure the match—and they now prepare for an exhibition match at 7 p.m. today.  The Independent Florida Alligator
  • The Gators soccer team scored a season-high five goals in a 5-0 win over North Florida on Sunday night after getting four or more goals in two wins in a row — freshman Kai Tsakiris opened the scoring with a penalty kick and coach Samantha Bohon said the team’s depth helped throughout the match ahead of upcoming SEC play.  WCJB
  • Florida’s football team is set to rely on a young wide receiver group as it fills gaps left by NFL-bound players—coach Napier is confident in talents like Wilson, Brown, and transfer Sturdivant to spark an explosive offense this season.
