CRIME NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Color Compass is a grassroots effort started by Ana Duran and her children after they saw that many art programs lack the supplies needed when budgets are cut. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cynthia Curry resigned as Gainesville City Manager after four years—her final day is November 21—and said she leaves the city in a better spot because she helped save money, keep streets safer, and boost local projects. HEALTH NEWS

  • UF/IFAS experts explained that common plants like citronella and lavender only repel mosquitoes when their oils are extracted (passive planting is mostly ineffective) and stressed that removing standing water and using layered control methods is essential. UF/IFAS specialist Eva Buckner will lead a free webinar on Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m. to show residents proven techniques to reduce mosquito breeding and bites.  The Gainesville Sun
