  • At about 12:28 a.m. on July 5, officers arrested Juan Pozada Zepeda and Jose Torres Vazquez after Pozada Zepeda allegedly threatened a patron with a semi-automatic handgun and Torres Vazquez punched the victim during an argument—witnesses and security guards helped stop the incident.  Alachua Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UF researcher Dr. Nasim Binesh studied how unregulated AI in gambling may target vulnerable players — her study recommends independent audits and training for developers to protect consumers. She plans to expand her research to include consumer data and early signs of gambling risks.  Mainstreet Daily News

  • On July 4, the Florida Gators added catcher Cole Stanford from Lenoir-Rhyne University+shortstop Sam Miller from Columbia University as part of transfer portal moves that began on July 1. Stanford posted strong numbers last season while Miller, honored as Ivy League Player of the Year+is set to replace departing Colby Shelton.  WRUF
