- ➤ Forever 21 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday and asked a Delaware court to close 355 US stores—23 of which are in Florida, including The Oaks in Gainesville—citing inflationary pressures, decreased consumer spending, and tough competition. Officials advise checking evacuation zones and securing homes — essential steps for many newcomers amid a population surge of nearly 470,000 since last year — to help keep everyone safe. - ➤ The University of Florida’s Small Animal Hospital will hold a free service animal eye exam event on May 16 in Gainesville where active service animals will receive eye and heart screenings from board-certified veterinarians (Drs.
