- ➤ Forever 21 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday and asked a Delaware court to close 355 US stores—23 of which are in Florida, including The Oaks in Gainesville—citing inflationary pressures, decreased consumer spending, and tough competition. - ➤ The Atlantic hurricane season will run from June 1 to Nov. 30, and after three hurricanes hit last year residents are urged to review emergency plans and gather supplies as predictions point to up to 15 tropical storms, 7 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes. Officials advise checking evacuation zones and securing homes — essential steps for many newcomers amid a population surge of nearly 470,000 since last year — to help keep everyone safe. - ➤ The University of Florida’s Small Animal Hospital will hold a free service animal eye exam event on May 16 in Gainesville where active service animals will receive eye and heart screenings from board-certified veterinarians (Drs.
