- ➤ The Children’s Trust has allocated $150K to assist families impacted by a SNAP benefits lapse+ $125K will support emergency food distribution with Bread of the Mighty set to supply up to 150 food boxes weekly to local resource centers. Mainstreet Daily News

- ➤ Mojo Hogtown BBQ — a local favorite — is shutting down after 10 years. The owners announced the closure today at 3:12 a.m. in Gainesville. WCJB
- ➤ In 2025, Gainesville and nearby areas saw many new restaurants open (from Southern breakfast hubs, Italian pizzerias, Mexican eateries and Asian spots showcasing local flavors, including the first Chick-fil-A outside Gainesville and a craft doughnut shop) that enriched the local dining scene. - ➤ The Greater Gainesville Chamber cut four staff due to a $250,000 budget gap + is selling its 7,700 sqft office as it seeks a new space near 43rd and 13th. Kim Tesch-Vaught serves as interim president while the board seeks a permanent leader after Eric Godet exits on Dec. 31. WCJB

- ➤ Florida quarterback DJ Lagway announced Monday on social media that he will enter the transfer portal when it opens Jan. 2, ending his time with the Gators after a challenging season. He plans to seek a fresh start and better health. WRUF
- ➤ Florida football quarterback DJ Lagway entered the transfer portal Monday, Dec. 15 after recording 2,264 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions (his first full season as starter) and thanked coaches and the Gator community for their support. GatorSports
- ➤ Florida’s Men’s Basketball team beat George Washington over the weekend—guard Xaivian Lee scored 24 points as the team won the rebounding battle with only 13 turnovers; they will work to fix kinks before SEC play begins in a few weeks. WCJB
