- ➤ The Female Protective Society Lodge No. 10 is raising $250K to renovate its historic Gainesville building by adding a foyer, restrooms and a dressing area—group leader Rosa Rutledge said the fundraiser will improve accessibility for local families. The Gainesville Sun
- ➤ The Community Gun Violence Prevention Alliance unveiled its strategic plan last night to guide efforts to reduce violence and build a safer community. Gainesville and county staff will present the plan to their commissions— a follow-up meeting is set for Jan. 12 at Historic Little Red Schoolhouse in Newberry. Alachua Chronicle
- ➤ Alachua County Victim Services and Rape Crisis Center will host a Day of Remembrance on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Squirrel Ridge Park (1603 Williston Road) to offer local resources, light refreshments, a candle-lighting ceremony, and supportive messages for healing. - ➤ Gainesville city and Alachua County commissioners hold a meeting today at 1 p.m. to discuss plans for a cultural arts center on the eastside, as a $100,000 feasibility study showed no current facility can meet the need & city staff are considering a pilot with the school district. WCJB

- ➤ UF leadership must practice institutional neutrality after the Board unanimously approved a policy on Dec. 5, and interim president Donald Landry emailed staff on Dec. 9 (urging leaders to speak only on issues essential to university operations). The Independent Florida Alligator

- ➤ After public spats, District 1 board member Tina Certain announced she will run for the county commission District 2 seat in 2026 + District 5 board member Rockwell filed for reelection. WCJB
- ➤ On Dec. 8, the Community Gun Violence Prevention Alliance (a partnership among city, county, and a college) presented its first countywide plan to reduce gun violence and boost community well-being.
