COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Marguerite's food truck, named in honor of the late Margaret DeSue—known as a community mother in east Gainesville—is run by her son Antonio and daughter-in-law Latora DeSue and keeps her legacy alive among local residents.  The Gainesville Sun
  • Gainesville city officials announced that five parks (Albert Ray Massey, Tom Petty, Fred Cone, Greentree and Cora P. Roberson) now will stay open later thanks to new lighting installed over nearly two years. The project cost more than $2.5 million and upgraded athletic fields and courts using funds from the Wild Spaces and Public Places half-cent sales tax.  WCJB

  • Alachua County extended its burn ban for seven more days due to weather conditions that raised the risk of wildfires—only permitted grilling devices and sanctioned fires are allowed while other open burns remain banned.  Mainstreet Daily News

  • Gainesville Health & Fitness trainer Adam showed simple lifestyle exercises you can do and explained easy modifications for different skill levels.  WCJB
  • HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital is set to open in May 2026 in a 205,000-square-foot building with 90 beds and four operating rooms — it will add over 200 new jobs and serve spinal and orthopedic patients in underserved areas.  The Gainesville Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Florida Gators women's basketball team won 59—51 against a banged-up FAU squad in Boca Raton after Liv McGill missed the game with an ankle injury as Laila Reynolds led with 17 points. The team, now 6—1, will play Memphis at the Cayman Islands Classic on Friday at 7:30 p.m.  WCJB
  • Florida football is set to host in-state rival Florida State on Saturday night at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (kickoff is 4:30 p.m. on ESPN2) and ticket prices start at $92 (lower bowl seats cost up to $198).  The Gainesville Sun
  • The Gators, 3-8, will face Florida State this Saturday at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN2 — a final chance for seniors to win — in a season-ending game. Florida State, now 5-6, will try to turn its season around — while coach Mike Norvell’s return for next season remains a focus — as each team seeks to improve its record.  WRUF
