- ➤ Hillary Hynes, a longtime animal advocate who worked at Alachua County Animal Services for over 20 years and started the Paws on Parole program to pair adoptable dogs with inmates, died on Saturday. She hosted a weekly segment (Adopt-A-Pet) on WCJB TV20 and her family said more details will come in the coming days. WCJB

- ➤ Gainesville honored local artist Jim Wilson by giving him the key to the city at the art festival. He is known for his wildlife-inspired work and will display his art all weekend—celebrating his long career in local culture. WCJB
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Alachua County leaders hosted a climate festival today to celebrate the completion of their climate action plan developed last year. The event featured speakers—exhibitors, food trucks and music that drew community members to learn more about local climate efforts. WCJB

- ➤ Florida football lost 34-24 to Ole Miss at Vaught Hemingway-Stadium — the Rebels scored two late touchdowns to secure the win. The loss dropped the Gators out of bowl eligibility, and they will next face Tennessee and Florida State. The Gainesville Sun
- ➤ Florida gymnastics signed four five-star recruits on National Signing Day Wednesday—Dulcy Caylor, Kieryn Finnell, Jayla Hang and Simone Rose—to join its 2026 recruiting class that will compete starting the 2027 season. - ➤ Florida's wide receiver room was hit by injuries and poor play, giving redshirt freshman T.J. Abrams a chance to start and earn playing time. Abrams finished with 28 yards on four catches in a loss and said he is ready to step up as the team prepares to face No. 7 Ole Miss later this season — a critical moment as Florida tries to keep its bowl hopes alive. - ➤ Florida quarterback DJ Lagway threw for 218 yards and recorded his first career rushing touchdown in a game where Florida held a 24–20 halftime lead before an interception in the fourth quarter allowed Ole Miss to win 34–24 on November 15. Lagway, returning after being benched last week, said he needed to do better and his performance may serve as an audition for prospective UF coach Lane Kiffin — the costly fourth-quarter error proved decisive — as he seeks to regain his starting role.
