- ➤ Communities in north central Florida will hold events this Tuesday to honor local veterans on Veterans Day; reports from WUFT’s Maia Labbe show towns are planning ceremonies and gatherings (including parades and community meals) to pay tribute to those who served. WUFT

- ➤ Joe Bisesi was named the new associate director at the UF/IFAS Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants on November 6 — he brings years of research and teaching experience from UF to improve methods for managing invasive species in aquatic and natural areas. Alachua Chronicle
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Scientists collected 275 bald eagle eggs from north central Florida to help save the birds, and crews will unveil an 850-pound stainless steel statue in December at Orange Lake Overlook—marking a major part of the species’ recovery. Metal artist John Andrews built the tribute from scrap metal with strong community and corporate support. WUFT

- ➤ At its Nov 6th meeting, the Gainesville City Commission approved $100,000 for Bread of the Mighty Food Bank to help families as SNAP benefits are delayed by a government shutdown.
