- ➤ Gainesville officials are in discussions with FDOT—who ordered the removal of non-traffic art—to decide whether Memorial Mile, a purple line along Northwest Eighth Avenue that honors soldiers from Afghanistan and Iraq, will be removed; the tribute began on Memorial Day weekend in 2007 and has long marked the city's remembrance of military sacrifice.
