  • On October 25, Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a home fire in the 2900 block of SW 4th Court, where firefighters quickly controlled the flames and rescued a cat while ensuring all residents escaped safely.  Alachua Chronicle

  • Three restaurant updates are coming to Gainesville: Parlor Doughnuts opened its craft doughnut and coffee truck at Midpoint Park and Eatery on 931 SW Second Ave, Linda Vista is remodeling a second location on Williston Road, and Pepper's Mexican Grill and Cantina will hold its grand opening for its second Gainesville location at 3236 SW 35th Blvd on Oct. 27—offering classic Mexican dishes and 2-for-1 frozen margaritas.  The Gainesville Sun

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Gainesville Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution has opened the George and Stella Knight Essay Contest for high school students and homeschoolers in grades 9 to 12 & will accept original essays on topics from the American Revolution until December 19. Winning entries will be judged on historical accuracy, clarity, and grammar and may advance to state and national contests with specific awards at each level.  Alachua Chronicle

  • Gainesville Fire Rescue congratulated Ketshia Robillard on being named the 2025 EMT of the Year by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians on October 25 — an honor that recognizes her outstanding dedication to patient care and the Gainesville EMS team.  Alachua Chronicle

  • HCA facilities in North Central Florida collected 277 pounds of unused prescription drugs on Saturday as part of their 7th annual Crush the Crisis initiative+ medications from three hospitals will be sent to the DEA for proper disposal.  WCJB

  • Florida soccer will head to Baton Rouge today at 3 p.m. to face LSU in a match that could clinch the Gators’ spot in the SEC Tournament with a win or draw—coach Samantha Bohon’s team has been unbeaten in seven matches and won their last road game against the Tigers 4-0.  WRUF
  • Florida Gators coach Todd Golden and forward Alex Condon spoke on WRUF’s Gator Talk about the upcoming basketball season as the team faces a challenging non-conference schedule that will begin with a game against No. 13 Arizona on Nov. 3 in Las Vegas—Condon said he will work on improving his three-point shooting.  WRUF
  • Gainesville viewers can watch Sports Overtime every Friday night — hosted by Jake Rongholt and Olivia Eisenhauer — as the show brings live game action on WCJB.  WCJB
  • Florida Gators softball will host state rival Florida State in an exhibition today at 2 p.m. The Gators remain unbeaten this fall, averaging 14 runs per game, and the Seminoles are set to field a strong lineup from last season - aiming to bounce back from a 4-0 loss when the two teams met.  WRUF
  • Jacksonville transfer outfielder Jaden Bastian suffered a compound fracture to his right leg after tripping over first base during Florida baseball's fall scrimmage on Oct. 25 — he was rushed on a stretcher from Condron Family Ballpark and Florida canceled its remaining practice with plans to return to the diamond today.  GatorSports
