  • From Oct 24 to Oct 26, the Gainesville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will mark its 40th Charter Anniversary with a three-day weekend that includes an anniversary reception, a Charter Day Luncheon at Trinity United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and a worship service at Greater Bethel AME Church at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday. The celebration – themed 'Forty Charter Members, Forty Years of Fortitude: Honoring Our Legacy, Advancing Our Impact' – honors the chapter’s four decades of community service in education, health, and economic empowerment.  The Gainesville Sun

  • Sonic - known for its chili cheese Coney hot dogs - has opened in the Reitz Union food court and attracted a long line of UF students eager to try its burgers and hot dogs. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nicolas Schull is a 21-year-old UF finance student who manages $1.5 million at the Gator Student Investment Fund—he mentors fellow students on investment techniques.   • Most Florida schools will be closed on Veterans Day Tuesday, Nov. 11—school districts decide whether to continue classes in some counties, with Gainesville’s Alachua schools on the closed list.
