- ➤ Santa Fe College received a $1.5 million grant for rural job training programs + the funding will boost local workforce skills in the area. WCJB
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Over 100 people gathered this morning in Gainesville to walk and cheer+ raise money for Alzheimer’s research. Participants carried colored flowers that show support and remembrance, marking the largest event so far for this cause. WCJB
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Florida volleyball beat No. 25 Missouri in the Dig Pink Match at the O’Connell Center on Friday night (25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 28-26) with strong kills and a focused effort; the team will face Vanderbilt at 1 p.m. today. WRUF
- ➤ On Friday at the O’Connell Center Natatorium, Florida men’s swim and dive team beat Virginia 191.50—59.50 while the women’s team lost 127—224. Both teams will play Georgia at home on Oct 30. WCJB
- ➤ The University of Florida Women’s Soccer team beat No. 12 Mississippi State 2-1 at Donald R. Dizney Stadium on Senior Night Friday — freshmen Addy Hess and Sophia Sindelar scored key goals. The Gators will play Tennessee at Knoxville on October 16. WCJB
- ➤ Pat Dooley on WRUF Radio graded the Gators after their 34—17 loss to No. 5 Texas A&M on Saturday night. He said the offense struggled with third down conversions and weak play-calling while the defense improved after a slow start. WRUF
- ➤ Florida defensive lineman Michai Boireau overcame weight issues and an arrest — he lost 50 pounds to boost his performance — and now he has turned his setbacks into key plays for the Gators. He recorded his first sack at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and will help lead his team in tonight’s game at Kyle Field. WRUF
