- ➤ The City of Gainesville has named Marion Caffey and Emmanuel Garilus as grand marshals for the 'A Very GNV Holiday Parade' scheduled for Dec. 6 at noon. The parade will begin on West University Avenue and Sixth Street and end near the Alachua County Public Schools Administration Building—after which families can join local festivities. WCJB
- ➤ A semi truck carrying 40,000 pounds of food from the LDS Church arrived on October 10 from the Bishop’s Central Storehouse in Salt Lake City to help families in East Gainesville’s food desert — supporting the expansion of the One Community Family Resource Center’s Food Is Medicine Program. - ➤ The Gainesville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will hold its 40th Charter Anniversary Celebration from October 24 to 26 to honor 40 years of public service, scholarship, and sisterhood. The three-day event includes an Anniversary Reception, a Charter Day Luncheon at Trinity United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. featuring keynote speaker Soror Beverly E. Smith, and a Worship Service at Greater Bethel AME Church at 10:45 a.m.—tickets are required for the reception and luncheon while the worship service is open to the public. Alachua Chronicle

- ➤ The School Board of Alachua County is holding a workshop on October 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the District Office Boardroom — 620 E. University Ave, Gainesville. Alachua Chronicle
- ➤ The Early Learning Coalition of Alachua County will move to a new downtown location at 201 SE Second Ave., Suite 201 with a grand opening set for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 6 — the coalition serves 2,000 children but faces a $2 million funding shortfall that has left 700 kids on its waiting list. - ➤ The Alachua County Commission invites the community to join the Forward Focus Year 1 Summit on October 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cuscowilla Nature and Retreat Center in Micanopy (lunch and childcare for up to 25 children ages 4 to 12 will be provided) as county staff share progress and outline next steps for eastern Alachua County. - ➤ The University of Florida Athletics announced that Deputy Athletics Director Chip Howard will retire effective January 1—after more than 35 years of service, his leadership helped shape Gator sports. Alachua Chronicle
- ➤ Florida football will face Texas A&M today at 7 p.m. at Kyle Field in College Station with the game broadcast on ESPN (also available on FUBO) as the Gators seek to avenge last season’s 33-20 loss. GatorSports
- ➤ The Florida Gators softball team will open its fall season with an exhibition game against Florida VIBE on Sunday at 1 p.m.—a professional fastpitch team that started in 2021. Much of the core returns, including senior catcher Jocelyn Erickson and sophomore outfielder Taylor Shumaker, as the team prepares to face college programs in its regular schedule. WRUF
