CULTURE NEWS

  • The Gainesville Latino Film Festival is honored again by Cinema Tropical (a national group that promotes Latin American films) and continues to showcase Latinx stories to audiences in Gainesville, marking its 21st year in the community.  Alachua Chronicle
  • Gainesville welcomed its first drive-in theater since 1992 when Le-Alem Getachew organized a screening of 'Matilda' at The Knot on Sept. 18, and families enjoyed the film under a starry sky. Getachew said she will host more drive-in nights if funding is found—adding hope for future community gatherings.  The Independent Florida Alligator

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gainesville honored IBEW Local 1205 by naming the section of NW 25th Avenue from NW 8th to NW 6th as 'IBEW Avenue' at a city commission meeting yesterday — the street runs next to the union hall — and a public sign unveiling will take place on Oct. 7.  City of Gainesville
  • City of Gainesville announced meeting notices for the week of Sept. 22—28, 2025 and provided details on how residents can view agendas and join the sessions online.  Alachua Chronicle

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Alachua County home listings dropped to $332,500 in August, down 2.2% from last month and 6.3% from last August, while Gainesville listings fell slightly to $335,000. Homes averaged 1,611 square feet at $207 per square foot and the market added 316 new listings+ homes took a median 74 days on the market.  The Gainesville Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ryan Theis and No.15 Florida volleyball will travel to Wisconsin on Friday at 7 p.m. to face Marquette, his former team, and will then play No.7 Wisconsin in Madison on Sunday at 1 p.m. for their final non-conference games of the season.  WRUF
  • SEC teams played three games in the first quarter as Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and Oklahoma earned high grades while Florida lost two games due to turnovers and a tough schedule—setting the stage for a challenging run ahead. The Gators now must prepare for tougher opponents in the coming weeks.  WRUF
  • Florida's Gators will face No. 4 Miami today at 7:30 p.m. ET in Miami Gardens as they try to improve a 1-2 record and avoid a start worse than in 1986—coach Billy Napier said this game offers a critical chance to spark a winning streak—and winning matters for his future with the team.  WRUF
  • The Florida Gators Volleyball team — two matches away from starting SEC play — holds a 5-2 record with wins over ranked opponents including Pitt and Baylor. They defeated Baylor in a five-set match on Sunday and will play Marquette and Wisconsin before facing Mississippi State in Gainesville.  WRUF
