- ➤ Pascal's Coffeehouse held a fall drink contest on Tuesday, Sept. 16—where 14 baristas split into teams to craft seasonal drinks like Pecan Horchata, Spiced Apple Cappuccino, and Pomegranate Orange Matcha. - ➤ The Ending is Ours Domestic Violence Summit will be held on September 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Santa Fe College Blount Center, 530 W. - ➤ Yesterday a kitten recovered from surgery at Alachua County Animal Resources at 3400 NE 53rd Ave. in Gainesville while staff cared for about 180 dogs and cats. - ➤ At a September 16 workshop, the School Board of Alachua County discussed suing the State to reverse the Charter School Review Commission’s approval of Newberry Elementary School’s conversion to a charter school. Vice Chair Tina Certain said she is fighting to keep the public asset under district control—board attorney David Delaney noted that litigation would be the only next legal step after the State Board of Education meets on September 24. - ➤ Alachua County Fire Rescue received 5 state-of-the-art ambulances equipped with cab-facing video cameras and a semi-automatic stretcher to improve emergency response after repeated breakdowns of aging vehicles—officials said the new trucks will be on the road by the end of this month and 7 more are coming in January to complete a fleet of 12.
