ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Gainesville firefighters responded to an apartment fire along Northwest 45th Avenue at around 4 a.m. Thursday, which was caused by someone falling asleep while smoking and quickly controlled the flames as residents suffered only minor smoke inhalation. WCJB
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Patrick Shane Johnson, 50, was arrested yesterday after allegedly robbing a Wells Fargo Bank in Gainesville while wearing a hospital gown—he reportedly handed a note to tellers, threatened one with a violent remark, fled in a red Hyundai, and later admitted his actions as he awaits a bail hearing. - ➤ Jail records show ICE made 27 arrests in Alachua County this month as part of a week-long statewide operation that led to 1,120 immigrant arrests in Florida, including six taken on Aug 25. The Independent Florida Alligator

- ➤ Gainesville announced the Walk of Fame project yesterday to honor its rich music scene. The project will install star-shaped plaques along downtown Streatery—plans developed with local input—to celebrate regional artists and cultural leaders. Alachua Chronicle
- ➤ On August 28th, Dance Alive National Ballet broke ground on the new Khoury Family Center for the Arts off Northwest 39th Avenue in Gainesville—this 22,000-square-foot center will include a dance and music academy, art gallery, theater and more. - ➤ The University withdrew its request for an appeal to the state supreme court—allowing the revived class action lawsuit against UF to proceed; legal steps will follow as the court sets the process. WCJB

- ➤ The Florida Chapter of the Huntington’s Disease Society of America will host the Gainesville Team Hope Walk on Saturday, September 13 at Depot Park — 874 SE 4th Street; registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the walk starting at 10:00 a.m. All proceeds will support efforts to improve the lives of people with Huntington’s disease and their families.
