  • Gainesville police arrested 32-year-old Jermaya Lavaghn Richardson last night for intentionally setting her apartment on fire at Camelot Apartments—she faces three counts of arson after witnesses reported her actions during an argument.  Alachua Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today when UF classes start, 85 new Bachelor of Science in Nursing students begin training as part of the largest undergraduate class in Gainesville—226 students in total—adding to a program enrollment of 722 and supported by investments in new faculty and simulation labs to meet nurse shortages.   • The Florida Board of Education found that the Alachua County School Board violated a parent's First Amendment rights at a school board meeting on July 31 — the board must update its public comment policies and train its members — with state monitoring during the 2025‑26 academic year.  WCJB
