CRIME NEWS

  • Joseph Daniel Miranda, 32, was arrested on August 17 after allegedly driving over 120 mph on I-75 and crashing into another vehicle while under the influence, and a car search revealed marijuana, cocaine, cash, and a shotgun shell—he now faces charges including DUI, drug possession, and additional offenses.  Alachua Chronicle
  • On August 17, a Gainesville man was arrested after allegedly driving his vehicle into an occupied condominium at Grantwood Condominiums, collapsing a patio and damaging the front wall, window, and door before entering the residence despite residents' commands (he is charged with burglary and resisting an officer without violence).  Alachua Chronicle

  • Newberry Panthers coach Ed Johnson said the team, which won a district title for the first time in nearly 20 years, will face a tough non-district schedule to prepare for playoff games.
