CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 27-year-old Hawthorne man, William Blas Hernandez, was indicted by a federal grand jury on drug trafficking and firearm charges after a July traffic stop in Gainesville—officers found drugs and a lost gun in his car. Alachua County Today
- ➤ A 71-year-old Jonesville resident and retired contractor was arrested on July 28 for 18 felony charges after nearly 60,000 files of child sexual abuse material were discovered at his home—he now faces charges for transmission and possession of child pornography with bail set at $1.8 million. - ➤ Tropical Storm Erin is strengthening and will become a hurricane today before turning into a major storm by Sunday—its forecasted track should keep it off Florida’s coast. Officials urge residents to prepare for dangerous surf and rip currents. The Gainesville Sun

- ➤ UF’s Student Health Care Center offers free menstrual products and low-cost STI testing while GatorWell and other campus partners provide counseling and workshops on sexual health. - ➤ Florida football held its 13th fall camp practice on August 14 at the Heavener Center—defensive tackle Caleb Banks was seen with a walking boot and listed as day-to-day while defensive back Aaron Gates missed practice after ACL surgery. Quarterback D.J. Lagway threw well and redshirt freshman Jason Zandamela practiced at center as other players such as Dallas Wilson and Treyaun Webb remained sidelined. GatorSports
- ➤ Florida basketball announced ticket packages for the Gators’ 15-home game season on Aug. 13—offering arena passes at $450, SEC Saturday packs at $650, and season tickets ranging from $500 reserved to $14,450 courtside seats—while group and single-game tickets will be available later.
