- ➤ Today, Gainesville released its 2025 Fall/Winter Seasonal Guide from the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, a free resource listing programs, camps, classes and events at more than 80 parks, 3200 acres of natural resources, six recreation centers, one recreation complex, three pools and various athletic fields through December. The guide details youth and adult athletics, arts classes and community events such as the Great Pumpkin Bash at Bo Diddley Plaza and the Holiday Tree Lighting at the Historic Thomas Center — underscoring the city’s ongoing commitment to accessible recreation. - ➤ Viking Companies filed a motion on July 29 to dismiss a lawsuit by Patricia A. Shively who claimed she was tricked into guaranteeing over $319 million in loans for the Celebration Pointe project in Gainesville. The motion calls her complaint frivolous and screenplay-like while another suit from Capital City Bank for missed payments and a $1.4 million balance is also pending. The Gainesville Sun

- ➤ In Gainesville, UF Lakes, Vegetation, and Landscaping Committee will hire a master arborist and hold a special meeting to set rules before any trees are removed at the former Maguire Village site. The arborist will give a detailed report at every meeting+ help decide which trees are healthy to keep. WCJB

- ➤ Palms Medical Group celebrates National Health Center Week 2025 from August 3-9 by hosting events like resource fairs & free health screenings that show how community health centers help people get vital care. - ➤ Florida quarterback DJ Lagway suffered a left calf strain before fall camp that adds to earlier shoulder, hamstring and core injuries, raising doubt over his ability to drive the Gators' College Football Playoff run. - ➤ Florida men’s basketball will face TCU on Thanksgiving Day in San Diego in the opening round of the Rady Children’s Invitational & the game airs on FS1 at 3 p.m. Eastern. The team is 2-1 all-time against TCU and will play a third-place game and championship on November 28 as they aim to repeat last season’s holiday tournament win & build on their past success. WCJB
