- ➤ Alachua County Public Schools students will return to class on Aug. 11 while families complete required registration steps for new enrollments. Schools will host meet-the-teacher events on Aug. 7-8 and back-to-school shoppers will benefit from a sales tax holiday on qualifying items until Aug. 31 — all details are provided in district guidelines. - ➤ The University of Florida closed its Office of Sustainability Monday, August 4, ending nearly 20 years of service in a plan to cut costs—three employees lost their jobs.
