- ➤ Alachua County Humane Society officials said residents showed strong support with increased donations and foster applications on August 2 — the surge helped the shelter care for more animals. WCJB
- ➤ On Aug. 2, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office held its first ever Community Fun Day to let Gainesville residents meet its officers and enjoy bounce houses, waterslides, a garage sale, food, and a job fair (designed to bridge the gap between citizens and police). WCJB

- ➤ In Gainesville, a family honored the memory of two young boys—six-month-old Logan and nearly two-year-old Landon Gordon—who died in a crash near the I-75 on-ramp on July 10th while urging others to buckle kids in safely. WCJB
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Steve Dene Stacy, Jr., 39 was arrested on August 2 after he allegedly approached a man in Holly Heights, punched him twice and pointed a handgun at him; deputies captured him shortly after he fled & law enforcement charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony battery and resisting an officer without violence. - ➤ Dance Alive National Ballet will hold auditions on August 16 at Pofahl Studios to select dancers for the company, Nutcracker, and the Next Generation group—dancers must arrive 30 minutes early to complete paperwork and follow specific dress guidelines for age groups—audition times range from 12:30 to 6:00. - ➤ City of Gainesville will hold a series of meetings next week from August 4th to August 10th — the public notice explains how to view agendas and attend the sessions. Alachua Chronicle
- ➤ Construction fencing will go up on Monday in downtown Gainesville as county officials prepare a new civil courthouse and parking garage — county commissioners allocated $100K from the capital budget for design, materials, and installation while no parking will be allowed near the site. WCJB
