CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Gainesville police arrested 27-year-old Darius Yarnell Wilson last night after he allegedly forced his way into a family home—attacking one resident and firing his gun as he drove away, with a search later finding spent shells at the scene. Alachua Chronicle
- ➤ On July 29 at 7:49 a.m., deputies arrived at 102 NW 9th Terrace in Gainesville to serve an arrest warrant on 44-year-old Samuel Edgardo Rivera who did not comply with orders and fired at officers, prompting additional units to join the scene where Rivera fired multiple rounds until SWAT fatally shot him at 11:02 a.m., and FDLE has begun an independent investigation with the involved deputy placed on paid administrative leave. - ➤ Fermon Green III, 44, of Hawthorne was arrested on July 30 for allegedly stealing a tractor worth $30,600 from a Gainesville business — he is on federal probation and now faces a grand theft charge after a yellow truck was stopped near NW 10th and NW 4th Place. Alachua Chronicle

- ➤ United Way of North Central Florida is tracking ALICE households in six counties and found that many Alachua households struggle with basic bills like rent and childcare. - ➤ Solar Gators raced in the Formula Sun Grand Prix where they debuted their new car Flare, finished fifth overall, and earned the fastest lap award—a $500 Mathworks prize and second place in the Altair Challenge.
