- ➤ A street in east Gainesville was named in honor of the late Father Roland M. Julien—priest at St. Patrick Catholic Church from 1980 until his retirement in 2015. - ➤ Gainesville police arrested nightclub owner Walter Aleman, 45, on Tuesday on a sexual battery charge after a 19-year-old college student said she lost memory after taking shots at a midtown bar and later woke up at his Southwest Second Avenue apartment with injuries—evidence of vaginal tears was found. - ➤ Miss Gainesville Paris Richardson won Miss Florida on July 9 with a $20,000 scholarship and became the first local titleholder since 1952—she was also the second Black woman to win the crown.
