- ➤ After a shortage that forced the Humane Society of North Central Florida to turn away pet food requests earlier this week, generous local donations helped restock its pet food pantry. The shelter at 4205 NW 6th Street still collects supplies Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. — donations include items like cat litter and dog food. WCJB
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Florida redshirt senior offensive lineman Devon Manuel was arrested on July 18 on charges of driving under the influence and possession of a concealed weapon after he was pulled over on SW 34th Street for speeding (60 mph, 15 mph over the limit) and officers smelled marijuana (which Manuel admitted to using before driving), and he was later released on bond. - ➤ Robert Wayne Masey (37) was arrested early yesterday at Arcade Bar for disorderly intoxication and an open container violation before he hit and threatened officers at a local hospital and jail, and he now faces charges including assault and resisting an officer with bail set at $153,000. - ➤ Gainesville police arrested a 47-year-old man on July 19 after he allegedly broke the glass door at the Archer Road McDonald's when he became upset over a payment dispute, causing over $3,000 in damage. Alachua Chronicle
- ➤ Florida football offensive lineman Devon Manuel was arrested on July 18 for misdemeanor DUI and felony weapons charges after police pulled him over on Southwest 34th Street in Gainesville—officers detected a strong smell of marijuana and found a loaded Glock 20 and a vape marked THC in his car—he was later released on bond. - ➤ Gainesville City Commissioners are looking into a potential 15% increase in property taxes next year by setting a maximum proposed rate of 6.89 mills+ which is about 15% higher than the current rate. Mayor Harvey Ward said the rate is not final+ and the property appraiser’s office will soon send out 'Truth in Millage' notices. WCJB
