- ➤ Raising Cane's will open a new location at the former ABC Fine Wine & Spirits site at 3433 SW Archer Road, expanding its Gainesville presence after its first site opened near the UF campus in June 2023. - ➤ Authorities raided multiple Gainesville properties on Wednesday morning in connection with an alleged dog-fighting ring—police executed a search warrant near Depot Park while animal services removed dogs and SWAT aided a separate raid on Southeast 32nd Street. WCJB

- ➤ School-age students and families will join the 26th Annual Stop the Violence Rally on July 26 at the new MLK Center on NE 14th Street, Gainesville, with doors opening at 9 a.m. PAVE (People Against Violence Enterprises) organizes the event to offer free backpacks to the first 1500 children and share back-to-school resources to help prevent violence. - ➤ The Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization held its third public workshop Tuesday at the Historic Thomas Center on Northeast Sixth Avenue to gather public input for a 25-year transit plan for Gainesville and Alachua County. The plan includes nearly 200 projects with 115 multimodal, 20 transit and 53 roadway safety improvements, and a Cost Feasible Plan adoption hearing is scheduled for Aug. 19. - ➤ UF Health opened its new Florida Recovery Center campus near the UF Health Springhill complex today, replacing the older site on Southwest 13th Street. The expanded facility holds 124 beds on a 5-acre campus with updated amenities — a swimming pool, gym, and pickleball court — to support patients in recovery. Alachua Chronicle
- ➤ UF Health held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday morning for the new Florida Recovery Center at its long-time site near Williston Road.
