- ➤ Gainesville police are investigating an aggravated battery-homicide attempt after finding an unconscious man with severe head trauma on the road in North Lincoln Heights (dispatched at 8:55 p.m. Monday) and he was taken to a local hospital (in critical condition). Mainstreet Daily News

- ➤ UF and Japanese researchers found that everyday microphones leak sound through electromagnetic interference—this flaw may let bad actors eavesdrop on private conversations while average users remain safe. The study said only high-level talks could be at risk if the flaw is exploited. WUFT

- ➤ Animal caretakers in Florida are preparing for an above-average hurricane season as NOAA projects 13 to 19 storms from June 1 to November 30. Farms, zoos and shelters are boosting generators for clean water and enforcing new state laws to keep horses, zoo animals and pets safe—steps that aim to prevent injuries during storms. WUFT

- ➤ UF Health published a study on June 24 showing that BMI is not a reliable predictor of future death risk—researchers found that a bioelectrical impedance device provides a more accurate measure of body fat. They explained that high body fat measured this way raised the risk of death by 78% and heart disease by about three-and-a-half times among the 4,252 individuals studied. Alachua Chronicle
