  • A roundabout near Depot Park is being named in honor of a Gainesville man + a local road safety advocate recognized for his work improving community roads.  WCJB
  • Touching Hearts at Home will host Karaoke for a Cause to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association on Monday, June 23 at One Love Café in Gainesville from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event invites community members (including individuals, teams, and local businesses) to join a karaoke competition with a suggested donation of $10 per adult and $5 per child to support local Alzheimer’s programs.  Alachua Chronicle

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Saturday morning at 2 a.m., Gainesville Fire Rescue and Alachua County Fire Rescue responded to a single-vehicle rollover in the 7100 block of East Newberry Road beneath an overpass where one occupant was trapped, suffered minor injuries, and was taken to a local hospital.  WCJB

CRIME NEWS

  • Gainesville police reported that 47-year-old Brent M. Nyman was arrested on Wednesday after he threatened a woman with a baseball bat while she was collecting belongings from his apartment—he allegedly targeted her because she is African American.  Alachua Chronicle
  • Travis Ramone Pinder, 34, was arrested on June 21 for aggravated child abuse after allegedly striking a 17-year-old with a black Glock pistol that partially tore the teen’s ear; officers said the incident happened around (3 a.m.) at his apartment on The Ridge on 34th (514 SW 34th Street).  Alachua Chronicle
  • Ocala police said calls reporting an active shooter at their hospital were false — after a similar threat was reported in Gainesville — and confirmed there was no real danger.  WCJB

  • Gainesville celebrated Freedom Fest 25 at Bo Diddley Plaza to honor Emancipation Day and Juneteenth with music, food trucks, and dancing. Organizer Nathaniel Courtney said the event honored his father's legacy and educated the community on a shared history — a story that guides a better future.  WCJB
