  • Smooth Flava Dance GNV, led by educator Wanda Lloyd, is hosting its annual three-day 'Teach Me To Dance' event today at MLK—inviting residents of all skill levels to learn line dancing, swing, and urban ballroom—while raising funds to support local summer STEM programs.  WCJB

  • UF students will face a housing gap as off-campus leases end on July 31 while classes and exams continue through Aug. 8—many will need to arrange temporary housing or long commutes during this challenging period.  The Independent Florida Alligator

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gainesville city leaders are changing downtown parking policies again after backlash + Director of Transportation Jesus Gomez sent commissioners a memo outlining nine planned changes his department will soon implement.  WCJB
  • The Alachua County Commission and City of Gainesville Commission will hold a joint meeting Tuesday, June 17 at 1 p.m. in the Gainesville City Hall Auditorium—viewers can watch live on Cox Channel 12, the AC TV app, or online. The agenda covers topics including the UF Eastside Urgent Care Center, Meridian Behavioral Healthcare facility, Hoggetowne Medieval Faire update, upcoming transit service changes, and a plan to extend the Gainesville Community Reinvestment Area.  Alachua Chronicle
  • At a Gainesville City Commission meeting today, city leaders approved a motion to let voters decide control of Gainesville Regional Utilities in a special election on Nov. 4—despite legal threats from the GRU Authority Board. Commissioners also explained that recent budget cuts will lower RTS service hours and reduce buses while setting aside $18.7 million to start early work on Citizens Field redevelopment—plans that include improvements to local public facilities.  The Independent Florida Alligator

  • Elite DNA Behavioral Health is hosting a donation drive through June 30 to support local youth by collecting items like school supplies, games, and personal care products for the Interface Youth Program offered by CDS Family & Behavioral Health Services.
