- ➤ A 19-year-old died in Gainesville after a motorcycle crash—occurring near midnight on June 12. WCJB
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Dionte Dewayne Small, 22, was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with sexual battery, false imprisonment, domestic battery by strangulation, and theft after he allegedly followed his ex-girlfriend—who had left him because of domestic violence—to a friend's apartment and attacked her by hitting her and stealing her phone and purse. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a Wednesday meeting, the GRU Authority Board said it is preparing a lawsuit after the city moved forward with a reworded referendum to regain control of the utility—this follows a city commission meeting last week where officials advanced the measure despite a judge blocking an earlier referendum preferred by voters. Longtime customer Janice Gary expressed frustration with the repeated efforts and the authority’s political role. WUFT

- ➤ The Florida Gators lacrosse team signed graduate transfer goalkeeper Paige Crowther from the University of Oregon on Thursday — a Pennsylvania native who started 14 of 15 games and made 192 saves last season.
