CRIME NEWS

  • Anthony Levern Tumblin, 59, was arrested yesterday after he allegedly used metal rebar to break seven house windows and six vehicle windows on June 7 during a dispute over being locked out at the 1600 block of NE 5th Place — bail was set at $10,000 — with damage estimated at $4,500.  Alachua Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, the Juneteenth Gainesville Film Festival at the Hippodrome Cinema showed three films honoring Black history and emancipation—one by local filmmaker Michael Gengler that focused on Coach Jessie Heard’s role in Gainesville’s desegregation. Gengler, an 81-year-old lawyer who spent decades preserving the city’s history, plans to donate $2.2 million to support UF College of Education—giving local teachers a boost in their graduate studies.  The Independent Florida Alligator

  • Former Trinity Catholic lineman G’nivre Carr joined Florida Gators football after transferring from IMG and receiving offers from several power-four teams — he said the Gators felt like family after his father's passing.   • Buchholz High School’s 4-star wide receiver Justin Williams committed on Sunday evening to play for the Gators — he gained over 1,000 yards rushing and receiving last season and is the first wide receiver commit for the Class of 2026.  The Gainesville Sun
