EDUCATION NEWS

  • The School Board of Alachua County will hold a monthly workshop tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. in the District Office Boardroom (620 E. University Ave) to discuss district facilities usage.  Alachua Chronicle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • River & Root Farm's co-owners battled a severe drought that forced daily irrigation in March and April, resulting in a 70% crop loss and an early end to the blueberry season. Alachua County remains in record water shortage as local farmers face rising feed + fertilizer costs.  The Independent Florida Alligator
  • The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season began on June 1 — forecasts predict a below-normal season, yet officials urge all residents to prepare for any tropical storm or hurricane. Residents should check reliable weather updates and know their evacuation zones.  The Gainesville Sun

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Gators men's golf team rose six spots to finish in the top 10 at the NCAA National Championship at Omni La Costa after a 4-under round by Luke Poulter. They will play the final round of stroke play soon as they aim for a top-eight finish.  WCJB
  • The Gators lost to Troy 16-11 on Sunday night and faced elimination on Monday when a sixth-inning surge put the game out of reach; their offense recorded 10 hits and 4 home runs but could not secure a Super Regionals spot.  WCJB
  • The Gators baseball season ended today at the Gainesville Regional after a 10-2 loss. Coach Kevin O’Sullivan switched pitchers to save the game, but the team struggled with a high ERA throughout the contest.  WCJB
  • Former Gator India Houghton is launching her professional tennis career after a successful final collegiate season at Florida. After finishing treatment for injuries, she will begin lower pro tournaments in California later this summer before moving on to European events (she plans to focus on her overall development).  The Independent Florida Alligator
