COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Gainesville residents gathered at Memorial Garden in Squirrel Ridge Park on Saturday morning to honor gun violence victims and survivors. Organized by Alachua County Community Support Services and Gainesville Fire Rescue, the vigil marked the start of Gun Violence Awareness Month—inviting the community to leave personal messages of hope.  The Independent Florida Alligator

CRIME NEWS

  • High Springs Police Chief J. Antoine Sheppard said the May 25 arrest of Adam Webb (stopped for a seatbelt violation and suspected of carrying firearms and marijuana) may have prevented violence at Ginnie Springs over Memorial Weekend as Webb was reportedly headed there.  Alachua Chronicle
  • High Springs Police worked together to keep Ginnie Springs safe over Memorial Day weekend and made one arrest during their joint operations.  WCJB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Meridian Healthcare hosted a Food Fest to mark the closing of Mental Health Awareness Month and to share its mental health services with Gainesville residents. The event featured food trucks, live music, a kids’ zone and free health screenings.  WCJB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida baseball, led by coach Kevin O'Sullivan, beat Fairfield 17-2 in a regional elimination game to improve to 7-0. Freshman Aidan King pitched eight strong innings, and the Gators will face the loser of the Coastal Carolina and East Carolina game at noon today.  The Independent Florida Alligator
