Gainesville residents gathered at Memorial Garden in Squirrel Ridge Park on Saturday morning to honor gun violence victims and survivors.

Organized by Alachua County Community Support Services and Gainesville Fire Rescue, the vigil marked the start of Gun Violence Awareness Month—inviting the community to leave personal messages of hope.

Antoine Sheppard said the May 25 arrest of Adam Webb (stopped for a seatbelt violation and suspected of carrying firearms and marijuana) may have prevented violence at Ginnie Springs over Memorial Weekend as Webb was reportedly headed there.

High Springs Police worked together to keep Ginnie Springs safe over Memorial Day weekend and made one arrest during their joint operations.

Meridian Healthcare hosted a Food Fest to mark the closing of Mental Health Awareness Month and to share its mental health services with Gainesville residents.
