GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a special meeting on May 22, the Gainesville City Commission reviewed budget proposals for fire, police, parks and public works amid a revenue gap between $8.5 million and $9 million. Commissioners approved a small increase in the Fire Assessment Fee—planners said a preliminary balance plan will be presented on June 12. Alachua Chronicle

- ➤ The Gator softball team will face SEC rival Georgia today at 11 a.m. at KSP, showing a mix of fun and high-level competition in the Super Regionals. WCJB
- ➤ The Gators lacrosse team plays North Carolina today at 3 p.m. in Foxborough as they try to win a second national title. The team has a 17-game winning streak and last beat the Tar Heels in a Final Four match + this game is a rematch of that upset. WCJB
- ➤ Florida lost 3-1 in its SEC Tournament game at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium on May 21—Ole Miss pitcher Hunter Elliot led his team by keeping the Gators from scoring much. Coach Kevin O’Sullivan said mistakes late in the game cost the team a chance to move forward in the tournament. WRUF
- ➤ Florida Gators volleyball will face the North Carolina Tar Heels in the ESPN SEC vs ACC Shriners Children's Showdown at the Net tournament, which starts on September 9th and ends on September 10th. The team has not met the Tar Heels in over six years and is led by new head coach Ryan Theis after longtime coach Mary Wise retired in 2024 as they aim to win the SEC and compete for a national title. - ➤ After a national championship celebration and a White House visit, Florida coach Todd Golden addressed recruiting plans on Thursday at the UF Women's Club. He announced that transfers Boogie Fland and rising senior guard Xaivian Lee have joined the backcourt while he awaits forward Alex Condon’s NBA decision by May 27. WRUF
