CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A shooting occurred just before 1 a.m. Sunday near 100 SW 1st St in downtown Gainesville, injuring one person who is expected to recover (police have not made any arrests). WCJB
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UF Housing and Residence Life announced that full-time employed graduate students will lose eligibility for Graduate and Family Housing starting July 1 — some residents must leave by June 30, giving them 60 days to secure new housing. The update limits residency to six years and may affect access to popular on-campus options in Gainesville. The Independent Florida Alligator

- ➤ Florida softball will host the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional against the Georgia Bulldogs at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium from Friday, May 23 to Sunday, May 25 if needed – Game 1 starts at 11 a.m. on ESPN2 and Game 2 at 11 a.m. on ESPN. Tickets for single games go on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. starting at $10, with free entry for UF students and parking available along Hull Road and in nearby lots. The Gainesville Sun
- ➤ Florida baseball closed the regular season with its sixth straight SEC series win after beating Alabama on May 17 and climbed the rankings as it prepares for today’s SEC Tournament game against South Carolina at 5:30 p.m. in Hoover — head coach Kevin O’Sullivan hopes for more home games in the future. - ➤ Florida football announced its nonconference schedule on Monday with the Gators set to host FAU on Sept. 5, 2026 and South Alabama on Sept. 4, 2027. The team has a four to zero record against FAU since 2007. The Gainesville Sun
- ➤ Florida Softball dominated its regional opener at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium on May 3 by defeating Mercer 8-0 — and the team now prepares to face Georgia at home for a chance to advance to Oklahoma City. WRUF
- ➤ Rueben Chinyelu announced on Monday (via CBS Sports) that he withdrew his name from the NBA Draft and will return to UF for his junior season. He impressed fans during the NCAA tournament (averaging at least seven rebounds per game) and is set to boost the team’s frontcourt. WCJB
