- ➤ Fanning Springs residents are invited to a disaster preparedness expo—held at the Suwannee River Fair Pavilion next weekend—where they will learn how to prepare for hurricane season. WCJB
- ➤ Gainesville letter carriers collected non-perishable food on the second Saturday in May as part of the national Stamp out Hunger Food Drive—supplying donations to Food for Kids and Catholic Charities to help local pantries amid rising grocery prices. Addie Harford, the local letter carriers’ president, noted the drive began in 1993 and continues to aid families in need. WCJB

- ➤ Paige Julia Nachwalter, 26, a preschool worker at Orange Blossom Prep — located at 6200 SW Archer Road — was arrested on May 10 and charged with child abuse without great bodily harm after a father reported that his child was hit multiple times and video surveillance captured aggressive actions; bail was set at $15,000. - ➤ Joshuia Bernard Jenkins, 35, who was in court-ordered treatment at Bridge House, was arrested on May 9 at about 4:14 a.m. for allegedly exposing himself and touching another patient's feet in a sexual manner — he faces charges of an unnatural and lascivious act and indecent exposure. - ➤ Austin Cordell Dees, 27, was arrested on April 19 for violating probation and charged with stealing a 2013 BMW from a used car lot and burglarizing coin-operated machines at a car wash—he reportedly admitted taking the vehicle for shelter and used hand tools on the machines while he remains held without bail with bail set at $180,000. - ➤ The Florida Gators lost 5-2 to the No.1 Texas Longhorns on Saturday after a two-hour weather delay — they scored early but could not keep up — and the rubber match to decide the series is set for today at 2 p.m. in Austin. The Independent Florida Alligator
- ➤ Buchholz High School’s baseball team beat Pace High School 5-4 in extra innings on May 10 to win the Region 1-6A championship—key plays came from Kai So, Blake Brewer and Aidan Kastensmidt. - ➤ Florida softball will learn its NCAA Tournament matchups during the selection show at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2 today—this show will reveal the Regional opponent and the Super Regional challenge.
