  • Volunteers worked at the fully stocked concession stand during the multi-day AAU Basketball Tournament at Legacy Park, where 80 teams competed from across the region; their 25+ hour efforts helped fund local youth programs including scholarships and new sports equipment.  Alachua County Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Florida Gators softball team began its SEC Tournament run Thursday against Auburn at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington. The third seed won two of three regular season games against the upstart, a team seeking an NCAA Tournament bid.  GatorSports
  • Florida Gators will join the 24-team bracket-play Players Era tournament — a new format — in Vegas the week of Nov. 16, facing teams including Houston, Kansas, Auburn and others. The event will help them prepare for SEC play.  The Gainesville Sun
