- ➤ Duke Energy Florida will issue a $90.5 million refund this summer to about 2 million customers after the Public Service Commission determined the utility overcharged for hurricane restoration costs by collecting over $1 billion instead of the actual $915.3 million; fuel charges will drop from June through September & then return to normal. - ➤ On May 5, the Lochloosa wildfire burned 228 acres and was 30% contained as crews from the Florida Forest Service and St. Johns River Water Management District worked to improve fire lines. CR 325 reopened at 9:00 p.m. last night with road signs posted to warn of potential smoke. Alachua Chronicle

- ➤ HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital opened on May 5, 2026, providing a 90-bed facility with emergency, surgical, imaging, and rehabilitation care for local residents and neighboring communities. The $235 million project is expected to create at least 250 new jobs. Alachua Chronicle
