- ➤ Downtown’s The Streatery project began construction April 13 to transform Southwest First Ave into a two-block pedestrian zone with outdoor lighting, seating, landscaping, and electrical outlets. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A wildfire near Gainesville Regional Utilities’ eastside operations center burned 25 acres Sunday afternoon, prompting some evacuations and road closures (near 53rd Avenue and Main Street) as firefighters and helicopter crews work to contain the blaze. WCJB

- ➤ GCRA resource fairs in East Gainesville will help property owners meet with qualified contractors and lenders for home projects. The city’s GCRA director said events held at select community centers (details forthcoming) will offer practical guidance for planning improvements. WCJB

- ➤ No. 4 Florida softball won a 7-1 series victory over Auburn Sunday afternoon at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The Gators, buoyed by Kendall Grover’s two-run home run and Keagan Rothrock’s strong pitching, will face Florida State in Tallahassee Wednesday at 6 p.m. and in Gainesville April 28. WRUF
- ➤ UF junior golfer Paula Francisco won the SEC individual title at Pelican Golf Club with an 8 under par score, leading Florida to a team stroke play win — the top seeded Gators will face Vanderbilt at 8 a.m. Monday in the quarterfinals. WRUF
