  • Volunteers in Newberry cleaned up nearly 200 pounds of litter from local streets on Saturday, Apr. 4. The action improved neighborhood appeal and showed real community effort.  WCJB

  • Florida businesses are absorbing higher fuel costs from a $1.34 surge in gas and a $2.13 rise in diesel (as the Iran War boosts prices), impacting transportation and construction. Sources say owners are holding off on surcharges as refuel costs for trucks jump over $640.  The Gainesville Sun

  • At its April 2 meeting, Gainesville’s city commission approved a $45K forgivable loan for Heartwood Soundstage to support free public events and asked staff (after a close vote) to develop a competitive loan program for local arts groups.  The Gainesville Sun

  • UF scientist Dr. Shannon Boye has developed a safer gene therapy for inherited eye diseases in children — pivotal trials for XLRS and LCA1 are underway this year at UF.  The Gainesville Sun

  • The Gators faced a rotation dilemma Friday, Apr. 4 after Aidan King pitched seven scoreless innings in a 2-0 win over Ole Miss while Liam Peterson struggled to complete the fourth inning, and Coach Kevin O’Sullivan said tough decisions remain to strengthen the staff.  The Gainesville Sun
  • Buchholz boys lacrosse defeated Santa Fe 18-4 on Friday night during Senior Night after Santa Fe stepped in on short notice — the Bobcats earned their eighth win and now prepare for the Class 2A-District 3 tournament starting Wednesday.  WRUF
  • Florida’s lacrosse team extended its win streak to six as they beat Colorado 9-7 at Donald R. Dizney Stadium on Saturday (goalkeeper Susan Radebaugh made a career-high 14 saves) while coach Amanda O’Leary praised the team's defensive play.  WRUF
  • Florida’s baseball team lost 5-2 to Ole Miss Saturday night at Condron Family Ballpark after a ninth-inning pitching meltdown left the Gators vulnerable. They now prepare to face the Seminoles in Tallahassee on Tuesday at 7 p.m.  The Independent Florida Alligator
  • No. 5 Florida lost 9-5 to No. 13 Mississippi State on Saturday after surrendering 14 hits at home (the Gators recorded a first-inning double play, and a rubber match is set to start at 1 p.m. today).  WRUF
  • On Saturday, Florida men’s tennis lost 4-2 to LSU on Senior Night at Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex (celebrating seniors Lorenzo Claverie, Tanapatt Nirundorn, and Pablo Perez-Ramos) and then bounced back with a 7-0 win over Presbyterian College after nearly three hours of play.  WRUF
  • No. 3 Florida gymnastics advanced to the NCAA Championships after scoring 198.050 points in the NCAA Regional Final in Tempe — they will travel to Fort Worth to compete for their fourth national championship while aiming to bring the title home.  The Independent Florida Alligator
