HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ UF nursing student Meredith Fischer has worked to change Florida's end-of-life care rules after seeing problems with advance directive orders during her 15 years in intensive care. She secured endorsements from statewide nursing groups and pushed for revised legislation that now includes nurse practitioners+physician assistants to execute orders, and she will continue her advocacy at upcoming events. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Florida women’s golf team won its fifth spring tournament at the Chattanooga Invitational on March 30 by finishing nine strokes ahead of No. 13 Virginia—this win in their regular season finale came after outplaying two top-15 teams. The team will compete in the SEC Championship on April 14 at Pelican Golf Club. WRUF
- ➤ Gainesville native Denise Thomas attended the weeklong World Masters Athletics Competition to meet new people + she took photos with international athletes at the event and local stops at Wawa and Publix to capture meaningful moments. WCJB
- ➤ Florida Gators guard Walter Clayton Jr. led a comeback win over Texas Tech in the Elite Eight and was named West Regional Most Outstanding Player, helping his team reach its first Final Four in 11 years + he averaged over 22 points per game and hit key three-pointers in critical moments. WCJB
- ➤ Florida basketball will face Auburn or Michigan State at 6:09 p.m. ET on Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio after staging a dramatic comeback win in the Elite Eight, and fans can watch the game on CBS while it streams on Paramount Plus and Fubo. GatorSports
- ➤ Oak Hall’s boys lacrosse team secured an 18-0 shutout win on Senior Night against the Santa Fe Raiders on March 30 — the Eagles controlled play from the opening face-off and Kevin Bendekovic scored a hat trick — while goalie Tyler Trefzger set a school record for saves. WRUF
- ➤ Dixie County defeated P.K. Yonge 21-11 at Bobby Hawkins Field on March 27th after the Bears built an early lead with walks and errors while P.K. Yonge tried to rally in later innings, but the mercy rule ended the game after six innings.
