EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UF students, alumni and faculty defended the value of the women’s studies program after its courses were removed from the general education catalog in January as part of a state law stopping identity politics. - ➤ On March 24, 2025, Frazer School’s high school team won its regional National Science Bowl competition in Gainesville and qualified for the national finals in Washington D.C. scheduled for April 24—28. - ➤ The Florida Gators women’s basketball team won an 86—84 game over UNLV in Las Vegas on March 23rd when Kenza Salgues hit a buzzer-beater after trailing for nearly 33 minutes. The team will host Texas Tech in the WBIT quarterfinals on Thursday at Exactech Arena at 7 p.m. WRUF
- ➤ On March 23rd, more than 3,700 athletes from 99 countries competed on the opening day of the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships at the Alachua County Sports and Event Center in Gainesville—making it the largest edition in the championship’s history—while the weeklong event continues. - ➤ On Saturday, the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships opened in Gainesville with a ceremony featuring the Gainesville Orchestra and Dance Alive National Ballet. - ➤ Florida lacrosse freshman attacker Clark Hamilton was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the second straight time last Tuesday, earning the honor with eight goals and two assists in wins against Navy and Mercer — a performance that marks her as a key player.
