  • Gas prices in Florida rose for a second week as regular fuel hit $3.67 per gallon on Monday, up from $3.47. Traders are factoring in Middle East tensions and higher spring demand, and analysts expect another 20 to 30 cents per gallon increase soon.  The Gainesville Sun

  • The Alachua County School Board voted to close Stephen Foster Elementary at the end of this school year — prompting heartfelt responses from students and parents as they prepare to say goodbye to a cherished community school.  WCJB

  • Newberry city commissioners approved two ordinances on March 9 to rezone parks so their current use is aligned, and they discussed plans for a future $3M gym at Champions Park South that may include four basketball courts to meet growing community needs.  Alachua County Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida’s men’s golf team tied for third at the Pauma Valley Invitational, finishing three strokes behind Tennessee and Georgia Tech (scoring 839). They will play in the Calusa Cup in Naples on April 5.  The Independent Florida Alligator
  • Florida basketball ranked 10th in popularity by a Nielsen survey covering viewership and social media from Nov. 1 to March 8, showcasing a year of rising success under head coach Todd Golden. The Gators' recent SEC wins and national title have raised their profile among top SEC programs.  GatorSports
  • Florida's Gators pitched strong on Tuesday night as they defeated Stetson 10-1 with a six-run fourth inning to extend their winning streak to six. They will travel to Tuscaloosa this weekend for a three-game series against Alabama.  WRUF
  • Florida Gators sophomore Liv McGill earned All-American honors by USBWA and AP on Wednesday, the first honor for a Florida player since 2009. She averaged 22.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 2.6 steals this season (the program also fired head coach Kelly Rae Finley last Monday).  The Gainesville Sun
  • Thomas Haugh, the 22-year-old Florida guard from New Oxford, has helped the Gators secure the No. 1 seed in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament. They will play Friday at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa.  WRUF
