- ➤ A Gainesville resident said she was attacked when police arrived nearly two hours after her 911 call, and records show the department had two officers per 1,000 residents in 2023—well below state and national averages. The Independent Florida Alligator
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Museum of History Matheson unveiled a new exhibit titled 'El Fenómeno de Alachua: Dos siglos en el Edén de Florida' that opened Wednesday evening in its main gallery to show two centuries of local history. The free exhibit, part of Discover 200—celebrating the county’s bicentennial and the museum's 31st anniversary, will be on display until the end of 2025. WUFT
- ➤ Lincoln High School—an all-black school from 1923 to 1970—has its living memorial wall unveiled today at Lincoln Middle School on SE 12th St at 11 a.m. The wall displays song lyrics, quotes and the names of every graduate as the alumni association invites community donations to complete the final phase of the project. - ➤ Less Than Jake will headline the 2025 Wake and Bake Festival in Gainesville at Vivid Music Hall on Friday and Saturday with acts including The Suicide Machines, Against All Authority, Kill Lincoln, Half Past Two, Omnigone, and J.E.R. The festival—named to honor Gainesville’s marijuana heritage—will also feature a pre-game party at Loosey's, an acoustic set at First Magnitude benefiting Grace Marketplace, and a pro wrestling event on Sunday.
