CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Matheson History Museum opened a new exhibit titled The Alachua Phenomenon: Two Centuries in Florida’s Eden to honor 200 years of county history—showing artifacts, photos, and stories at the opening on March 12, 2025. The exhibit will run through 2025 at the museum on E. University Ave. WUFT
- ➤ Santa Fe Winds will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. on March 27 at the Lyceum at Santa Fe College’s Northwest Campus in Gainesville — tickets are required due to limited seats. The program will feature music with fast parts and slow parts from American and English composers. Alachua Chronicle

- ➤ GRU Authority board voted to end the deal with Gainesville to collect stormwater and garbage fees after a January billing mistake caused extra charges, and the city is open to ending the agreement sooner than the required 24-month notice. GRU CEO Ed Bielarski said this change could lower a customer’s monthly bill by about $40—$50 as the utility works to make up for over $800,000 in lost revenue. The Gainesville Sun
- ➤ FDOT is planning a traffic shift on eastbound NW 39th Avenue between NW 57th Terrace and NW 53rd Street from Friday, Mar. 14 at 8 p.m. until Monday, Mar. 17 at 6:30 a.m.—eastbound traffic will move to the inside lane during pavement repairs while the bicycle lane is closed. Alachua Chronicle

- ➤ ACFR crews saved Mike Rollo’s life on September 20 when he stopped breathing—his daughter Emily Cannister thanked firefighter Jesse Hearn and his team at a long-awaited reunion six months later. Jesse Hearn received his first Respiratory Arrest Save Award while his wife delivered their newborn son as he worked on the call. WCJB

- ➤ Florida gymnastics seniors will face No. 10 Kentucky Friday night at the O’Connell Center in Gainesville during their senior night meet, marking the final home meet for several seniors and graduates. The meet starts at 7 p.m. ET on SEC Network Plus—tickets range from $15 to $30. GatorSports
- ➤ Florida basketball will play Missouri in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday night as coach Todd Golden said the Gators are set to get a rematch after a close home loss—Florida will focus on stopping Missouri’s top shooter and taking care of the ball while Missouri’s leading scorer remains uncertain after a knee injury.
