- ➤ The Barbergators Chorus has delighted locals for over five decades by delivering personalized Singing Valentines on Valentine’s Day, performing intimate a cappella renditions with a long-stemmed rose at workplaces and classrooms across Gainesville (and Alachua County) to bring people together. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UF’s Department of Physics held its ninth annual interactive science fair on Saturday at Depot Park, where families enjoyed hands-on science booths. The event celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (Feb. 11) and inspired kids to imagine a future in science. WCJB
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Alachua County leaders are asking for grant proposal submissions to revitalize east Gainesville. Officials will review community ideas soon to plan the revitalization project. WCJB
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Florida basketball will play South Carolina on Tuesday at 7 p.m. on SEC Network. The Gators, fresh off a win over Kentucky and a big win against South Carolina, are expected to control the game while giving more time to key players like Olivier Rioux and CJ Ingram (score prediction: 93-60). - ➤ Newberry High School boys basketball beat South Walton 63-39 Saturday in the Class 3A quarterfinals. The Panthers, led by Henry Mathias with 18 points, will host the region semifinal against Episcopal School of Jacksonville at 7 p.m. Saturday. WRUF
- ➤ After an opening day loss on Feb. 15, Florida baseball bounced back with two wins over UAB. Freshmen like Cash Strayer (a key batter) and veterans such as Kyle Jones led the team through strong pitching and timely hitting. GatorSports
- ➤ The Florida Gators men's golf team won the 49th Gators Invitational on Sunday at Mark Bostick Golf Course & secured their seventh straight title. Senior Matthew Kress led the team through challenging rounds amid strong winds. WRUF
