EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ John Abbitt from Gainesville urged the school board to reinstate the canceled Feb. 17 meeting so community members can provide feedback on the rezoning plan scheduled for a final vote on March 12 (the only alternative is the March 3 session). Alachua Chronicle
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The UF Lakes, Vegetation and Landscaping Committee delayed a decision on the Graham Stormwater Improvement Project that would remove 947 trees (including 67 heritage trees) to fix drainage issues in the Graham Woods between Flavet Field and Gale Lemerand Drive. - ➤ Since Feb. 6, Gainesville community members have raised concerns after a new state rule makes driver's tests available only in English (leaving non-English speakers at a disadvantage). - ➤ No. 6 Florida Softball beat Kansas 11–2 on Sunday afternoon at USF Softball Stadium and secured their fourth win in three days. The Gators will face USF Sunday evening in their final tournament game, aiming to sweep the event for a second year. WRUF
- ➤ Skye Blakely scored 9.95 on bars and 9.975 on floor at a gymnastics meet in Gainesville on Friday, Feb. 6. Her performance marked an exciting highlight in the local season. WCJB

- ➤ The Panthers won consecutive district titles in the 3A District 3 boys basketball tournament on Saturday after beating the Bradford Tornadoes 60 to 49—senior Juwan Scippio scored 16 points as four players reached double figures and coach Patrick Green said the team stayed cool at the end. WRUF
