EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Buchholz High School today, math teacher Christin Vinson, who has taught for more than a decade (and whose father was alive to see her win before his passing), received USA Today's national Teacher of the Year award and a $10,000 check.  WCJB
  • The School Board of Alachua County will hold an elected officials meeting today at 9:00 a.m. at the District Office Boardroom (620 E. University Ave) to review the Comprehensive School Draft Strategy Plan.  Alachua Chronicle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Michael Ebner, a park ranger at San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park and Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park, was named Florida Park Service Ranger of the Year on Jan. 27 by the Florida Park Service Ranger Association for his strong leadership in park operations.  Alachua County Today

  • UF is investigating two classrooms where measles exposure may have occurred, while recent data confirm six cases across North Florida. Health officials are contacting those at risk and stress that vaccination is the most effective safeguard.  WUFT

  • Florida gymnastics will compete against Missouri at Mizzou Arena Friday night at 9:00 p.m. ET in a top-10 matchup. The Gators aim for their fourth straight ranked win in this tough road event.  WRUF
  • Buchholz boys basketball will face Ocala Forest in a 6A District 3 semifinal in St. Augustine tonight at 6 p.m., aiming to rebound after a close loss last season. Coach Elliot Harris said his team is more physical & ready to win a district championship.  WRUF
  • On Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, golfers gathered at Turkey Creek Golf and Country Club for the Miracle tournament celebrating five years since the course reopened. A full field of 144 players competed and received awards for the top men’s & women’s teams.  Alachua County Today
  • Buchholz Girls Basketball advanced to the district championship after winning 51-45 in Wednesday's semifinal, and they will face top-seed Tocoi Creek at 6:30 p.m. Friday in St. Augustine.  WRUF
